Night shift ends in armed robbery in Rhodesfield

Orbet Komorayi hopes to recover his driver’s licence and pension and medical aid cards after an armed robbery.

All that Orbet Komorayi was looking forward to on the morning of July 30, was to retire to his bed after his night shift duty.

Unfortunately for Komorayi, he didn’t know he would become a victim of an armed robbery.

“I was walking along Kittyhawk Street in Rhodesfield when a silver Toyota Corolla Quest with two people inside stopped in front of me,” said Komorayi.

“At first, I thought it was an e-hailing taxi service vehicle, but it was still rather suspicious. Before I knew it, the guy who was in the passenger seat got out. Armed with a firearm, he grabbed my small bag and started searching me, asking for money and cellphones.”

Komorayi told Express the suspect took his wallet.

“My wallet had bank cards, my Zimbabwean driver’s licence and other cards in it. They also took two phones and other personal items,” said Komorayi.

“This was a very traumatic experience for me because every time a car drives past or stops near me, I fear it could be the guys returning or others to rob me again. I don’t know what I can do because I still work night shift and walk in fear.”

According to Capt Jethro Mtshali, spokesperson for Kempton Park SAPS, no arrests have been made and police are investigating an armed robbery case. Anyone with information can call 08600 10111.

The Rhodesfield resident hopes to recover his driver’s licence and pension and medical aid cards.

“They might have thrown my cards away by now,” said Komorayi.
