Youth organisation donates sanitary pads to Tumelo Home

About 20 young boys and girls spent the entire day doing chores at this centre.

A group of young people spent Women’s Day helping out at Tumelo Home for the Disabled Children in Ivory Park Section 2.

Led by Youth in Leadership founder Pfarelo Maphangula, about 20 young boys and girls spent the entire day doing chores at this centre.

The group also donated sanitary pads, cosmetics and goodies to the young ones who live at the centre.

“We just wanted to come here and show our support to the workers who cater to the children living here. We wanted to show them that we appreciate and value their sacrifices to ensure the well-being of these children. We know that it is not easy to work in an environment such as this, and so we chose this day to come here and celebrate all the women working at this centre,” said Maphangula.

“Secondly, we wanted to show and ensure the children living here that they are also loved. Above all else, we just wanted to make a difference in other people’s lives,” he continued.

He said since the group consists of young people, there is a great need to also teach the young ones the importance of sharing and caring for others.

“This also presents the perfect opportunity for us to view life from a different angle and start caring for others. In this way, I hope most of our members will grow up to be better people. In short, this teaches us the true meaning of ubuntu,” he continued.

He said their organisation focuses on helping the less privileged.

“We don’t have sponsors or funders, but we try our best to go out and ask for hand-outs and sometimes use our own money just to make a difference. We buy clothes and school uniforms and donate to those who need it the most,” concluded Maphangula.
