UPDATE: Van Riebeeck Park and Birch Acres residents battling with water problems

It is a seriously problem and residents are angry

Since Wednesday there has been no improvement in the water problems experienced in Van Riebeeck Park.

According to ward councillor Amanda Davison the area around Hoërskool Jeugland is hardest hit, with almost no water at all.

On Friday evening, she said the problem was escalating with huger parts of the suburb experiencing low water pressure.

She said the metro, when asked about the problem, said they were attending to it and increased water pressure to Van Riebeeck Park.

“However, it is worse now, escalating to Terenure,” she told Express on Friday evening.

In the meantime, ward councillor Tracey Lourenco described the situation in Birch Acres as a nightmare.

She said Birch Acres and Terenure were both down with complaints flooding in.

She said Birch Acres had been without water the whole week. At least two burst pipes occurred the past week with a third on Eagle Street. According to her engineers are battling to find the underground burst.

“It is a seriously problem and residents are angry,” she said.

The metro has issued no formal statement about the problems.
