Dad shot at on Partridge Avenue during road rage incident

As they exited the R21 North onto Voortrekker Street, Rautenbach said he saw a Ford Raptor bakkie tailing behind him out of nowhere at a rapid speed.

Kempton Park SAPS is investigating a case of attempted murder following an apparent road rage incident during which a shot was fired through a Glen Marais father’s rear windscreen.

The incident occurred on Palm Avenue around noon on Sunday.

Capt Jethro Mtshali, spokesperson for Kempton Park SAPS, said detectives were investigating the incident but to date no one had been arrested.

Shawn Rautenbach (45) took to social media in an attempt to identify the driver of a white Ford Raptor with black markings.

He said things turned sour as he exited the R21 onto Voortrekker Road. He saw a Ford Raptor bakkie behind him travelling at high speed. “This guy was all over the show,” said Rautenbach.

As Rautenbach turned onto Pomona Road, the man was still on his tail and even tried to push him off the road. “I thought to myself, it’s okay, best leave it.”

The driver passed Rautenbach as they turned onto Highveld Road and started tailing his fiancée Alana Maritz who was driving in front of him at the time with their four-year-old daughter.

CCTV footage captured near Hoërskool Kempton Park. The driver of the vehicle fired a bullet through Shawn Rautenbach’s (45) rear car window. Photograph supplied.

“He continued to drive highly robust and as he was tailing my fiancée’s car, I zapped him.”

At Kempton Park Primary School the driver again tried to push Rautenbach off the road.

At a stop sign on Highveld Road, the driver pulled up to Rautenbach’s left side. “I opened my window and told him to go home.”

As Rautenbach turned right into Partridge Avenue, he heard a shot and noticed a bullet hit his rear window on the right side. He suspects the bullet exited through the left back window which had been open at the time.

He said once the shot had been fired, he finally lost his temper and chased the Ford Raptor. The Ford driver sped off, driving over curbstones. Rautenbach lost track of him and the man got away.

The couple were on their way home after fetching Maritz’s car which had broken down in Rosebank. She and their four-year-old girl were driving in the car in front of Rautenbach all the way home.

“My little girl almost got into the car with me, but I told her to go with her mom because her toy was too noisy for me.”

Mtshali urged anyone with information to contact Kempton Park SAPS on 011 393 8600 or call 086 001 0111.
