Former soccer stars helps where he can at local primary school

Ex-soccer star shines off the field.

Retired soccer star Chris Manoka continued to be a blessing to others when he donated a 52 pairs of school shoes to destitute learners.

Monoka, a genius on the field during his playing days, also donated sanitary pads to 70 young girls at Phomolong Primary School last Wednesday.

“I was shocked by the level of poverty these little children face. I was also touched that even though they didn’t have school shoes, they still came to school every day with the aim of shaping their future,” said Manoka.

Manoka used his own savings to help bring a smile to these little learners’ faces.

“I was so fortunate that some of my friends heeded the call when I told them about the children’s plight and contributed something towards making a change,” he explained.

He said he would love to do this every year and help where he can.

“The bigger picture is to continue doing this on an annual basis. Hopefully, I will be able to attract sponsors to be part of this initiative. I am also looking at starting a schools’ soccer tournament just to help keep the little ones off of the streets and away from temptations of alcohol and drugs,” he continued.

He said he chose Phomolong Primary because he also attended there, and it is also where his football career took flight.

Before retiring from professional football, Manoka played for teams campaigning in both the National First Division and Premier Soccer League, such as FC AK, Thanda Royal Zulu and Amazulu.
