Three trucks collide on R21; one driver airlifted to hospital

The Jaws of Life were used to free one driver

A seriously injured truck driver was airlifted from the scene of a truck accident on the R21 on Tuesday morning.

Shawn Herbst of Netcare 911 said the accident, which involved three trucks, happened around 11.45am on the R21 south just passed the Flying Saucer interchange.

The driver of the second truck was found to have sustained serious injuries and required advanced life support intervention to stabilise him while fire and rescue services used the Jaws of Life to free him, said Herbst.

Due to the nature of the patient’s injuries the Netcare 2 specialised helicopter ambulance was activated to airlift the man to hospital for further treatment.
