Edleen mother dies in hit and run on P91, family needs answers
Crichton's family and fiancé have many unanswered questions surrounding the accident
A family is looking for answers after a young Edleen mother was killed in a hit and run accident on the P91 on Saturday evening.
Cleouni Crichton (21) died on impact when a car hit her at the intersection of Kwartel Street at around 7.45pm, and then drove away.
A second car, which drove over the body, stopped at the scene.
According to both her fiancé Riaan van der Walt (33), also from Edleen, and mother Olga Crichton from Pretoria, Cleouni was on foot after having met with friends in the area.
Van der Walt told Express: “I was woken up at 1am and told about the accident. The two young women called the police but they had no details of the hit and run vehicle.
Crichton said: “We know she was visiting friends. The last thing we heard she was on her way to her son’s father’s house. I don’t know why she was on foot.”

Van der Walt said the community policing forum contacted him on Wednesday and took him to the scene where Cleouni’s body was found. They were also on the scene the night of the accident.
“While I was there, I spotted a townhouse complex which seems to have CCTV cameras. We still have to go through procedures in order to get a copy of the footage, which might yield some answers,” said Van der Walt.
According to Norkem Park SAPS spokesperson Sgt Johanna Madiga, paramedics arrived on the scene and declared Crichton dead.
Investigations are underway to find the driver who did not stop. A case of culpable homicide has been opened.
Madiga said the investigating officer discovered a vehicle’s side view mirror on the scene, which might help to identify the car model.
Cleouni turned 21 on July 28 and her son, Armand, four the day after.
If anyone has any information surrounding the case, contact the investigating officer, Eunice Mkuna, on 082 519 1446.
No funeral arrangements are known at this stage.
