Hijack victim kidnapped on Kerk Street

While inside the car, they kept hitting him on the head with the gun to avoid him looking at them

Kempton Park resident, Thulani Dhlamini, was left traumatised and injured after being hijacked and kidnapped at gunpoint outside his Kerk Street home on Friday night.

According to his wife, Malefu Nhlapo, Dhlamini was returning home from work.

“He parked the car to open the gate and noticed two men standing nearby. He received a phone call which distracted him a bit and before he knew it, the two men approached him,” said Nhlapo.

“One of the men was armed and they forced him inside the car and drove off with him. While inside the car, they kept hitting him on the head with the gun to avoid him looking at them and where they were going.”

Nhlapo said the suspects also demanded her husband’s cell phone, banks cards and ID card.

“They drove with him until they dropped him off at an open field on CR Swart Drive,” said Nhlapo.

“He was instructed not to look back and before they drove off, they fired a shot in the air to scare him. They also took his cap and shoes. He started running and fell, injuring his hands and feet.”

Nhlapo was alerted of the incident by staff at the Engen petrol station on CR Swart Drive.

“He ran to the petrol station for help and they called me and the police. A friend drove me to where my husband was and we later took him to hospital for medical attention. We truly appreciate the great help from the staff at Engen, they were amazing.

“This has been a very traumatic experience for all of us. What has become of my beloved Kempton Park? This is an unpleasant experience but we are truly grateful that he is alive.”

Although Dhlamini was taken to hospital, he is now recovering at home.

Nhlapo and Dhlamini hope to recover their vehicle. It is a white Toyota Yaris Zen with the registration DVJ 116 EC and it is a 2011 hatchback model,” explained Nhlapo.

“We doubt it will or has gotten them far because it has a gearbox problem and was not performing that great as we were planning to get it repaired in a few weeks’ time.
