Police and churches join hands to stand against drugs in the community
Tembisa used to be a very scary place to be in back in the days
The president of the Tembisa Transformation Forum (TTF), Bishop Robert Makhubo, has vowed that drugs in Tembisa will be a thing of the past.
Makhubo was speaking during the Tembisa-based mass prayer meeting for members of the SAPS.
“I am convinced that under the current leadership of the TTF and working together with the police and local churches, we will be able to turn Tembisa into a drug-free area.
“All the drug syndicates are going to be crushed because the church of God is praying and over and above, is praying with the police,” said Makhubo.
When national police commissioner Lt Gen Khehla Sithole took over, he made a call for the police to form partnerships and work with the church of God for divine intervention in their quest to fight crime.
“We are going to work hand in hand with you. I believe this is just the beginning of good things. Tembisa used to be a very scary place to be in back in the days. This area was known for all the wrong and bad things.
“This is the place where a helicopter was shot down, the first place where a train was set alight and dead bodies dug from graves to be burnt. But when the men and women of God started coming together from different churches for one agenda – to transform our community – good things started happening. This township changed,” said Makhubo.
“And now that we are starting this partnership we need to speak the blessing of the Lord upon this township. We need to pray for it. We came together as collective servants of God before and started praying for this township, I am certain we are going to see transformation,” he concluded.
When addressing the gathering, Tembisa police chaplain Lt Col Lassy Moerane said he was happy to have lived to see this day manifest.
“It is long overdue. We cannot walk alone. We need the church of God. We need the prayers and, above all, we need God. We can have all these protective gear, such as bulletproof vests, but still, we need the one who can protect us from head to toe and that is God,” said Moerane.
