The City of Ekurhuleni has promoted 19 firefighters to shift managers.
According to William Ntladi, spokesperson for disaster and emergency services, this team comprises eight female officers who will lead different fire stations across the city.
“All the promoted firefighters were given new rank markings and welcomed to their new roles by the head of department, Sam Sibande, emergency services divisional head Mhlengi Makhubalo and operational manager Lifty Ngoepe,” said Ntladi.
Sibande highlighted the importance of being a dedicated and passionate firefighter to the newly appointed managers. He urged them to keep their focus to their line of duty.
Ntladi said the entire assemblage resonated commitment and dedication in their new role.
“We will hit the ground running and immediately add more value to the service,” said Puleng Xoki, one of the shift managers.
Ntladi said: “These promotions are in line with the City’s vision to empower its employees, especially women in its work force.”
On August 1, city manager Dr Imogen Mashazi called on the women in uniform to take advantage of the City’s vision of empowerment to equip themselves academically and professionally.
Mashazi was speaking during the women in uniform gala dinner and awards ceremony that at Alberton Civic Centre. This was to honour women who walk the extra mile to serve the people of Ekurhuleni.
