Mayibuye’s first annual pageant a success

First annual Miss Mayibuye pageant held.

Rose Niketiwe Mnisi and Katlego Pootona, both from Mayibuye, hosted the first annual Miss Mayibuye at Rabie Ridge Community Hall on August 31.

The pageant focuses on building women’s confidence and encourages self-esteem.

Co-organiser Mnisi said their aim is to empower young people and support them in making their dreams come true and have a bright future.

“The main focus is to hone their talents and push them towards growth through exposure, and to give them a platform to showcase those talents. To build a community of confident young women,” said Mnisi.

“The objectives of the pageant were to groom and build young women who are confident and dignified by educating them about giving back to the community.

“Educating them about the importance of being responsible independent young women of South Africa.

“There are three stages of the competition, namely team building, giving back to the community and the stage,” said Mnisi.

Co-organiser Pootona said this is their first time hosting a pageant and it went very well.

“We personally believe the event was a success. It took us approximately eight months to prepare for the event and everything went accordingly.

“The only thing we had a challenge with was financial assistance. We are planning to overcome that by continuing to look for sponsors as we had sent out a few proposals to potential clients,” said Pootona.

Miss Mayibuye Junior crown was won by 12-year-old Nandine Dingar, first princess and and Miss Popularity was 13-year-old Nkazimulo Msimango and second princess was 10-year-old Duduzile Makhanya.

Miss Mayibuye was 22-year-old Thandolwethu Tshabangu, first princess and Miss Popularity was 16-year-old Dineo Maila and second princess was 15-year-old Mihle Sitatela.

All the contestants received participation certificates and the winners received sashes, crowns and gifts.

“The voting site was offered for free by the marketing associate JOE from Pageant Vote Africa because they were interested in partnering with us,” added Pootona.
