The search is on for the country’s finest preacher

Calling The Called will hold auditions throughout Gauteng, searching for candidates who will be the country’s next best preacher.

The first South African television programme that focuses on uncovering talented preachers is about to hit the screens. Titled ‘Calling The Called’, the production will showcase gifted, yet undiscovered preachers of the Gospel from townships, rural areas, suburbia and beyond.

As a first of its kind, this show will highlight existing yet ignored potential pulpit talent that exists on our shores. Almost 80 per cent of South Africans subscribe to Christianity, which, according to the show, indicates an appetite for fresh and innovative content directed at this demographic.

Ngwako Serepe, media consultant, said for 13 weeks, contestants will be put through rigorous challenges to prove if they are worthy of the ultimate prize. Viewers will also be given an opportunity to vote for their favourite candidates as episodes unfold.

“In the first stages of the programme, there will be five formidable judges to adjudicate the process. Among those, a different celebrity judge will feature weekly,” said Serepe.

Produced by Zallywood, Calling The Called will hold auditions throughout Gauteng, searching for candidates who will be the country’s next best preacher.

“The competition is open to all South Africans from the age of 21. Foreign nationals with working permits may also enter.”

Zallywood’s director Ruth Mabona hailed this show as a trailblazer in its category.

“We have seen shows on talented singers and soccer players, but this is unique in this category of television content,” said Mabona.

People from Tembisa, Ivory Park, Midrand, Olifantsfontein and Oakmoor can audition on September 17, 2019, at Pretoria State Theatre from 8am; September 18, 2019, at Walter Sisulu Square, Soweto; and on September 19, 2019, at Johannesburg Theatre.

The ultimate winner will walk away with prizes worth R1-million and a brand-new car.
