Rhodesfield Gautrain Station evacuated after fire alarm
The incident did not result in any train delays.
The Rhodesfield Gautrain Station was evacuated on Thursday morning following a fire alarm that was triggered on the premises.
Gautrain spokesperson Kesagee Nayager told Express on Friday: “Due to a false fire alarm, passengers at the Rhodesfield Station were evacuated yesterday afternoon.
“The evacuation was in accordance to our standard safety procedure. The incident was brief and passengers were shortly thereafter escorted back into the station.”
When Nayager was asked what exactly triggered the alarm, she said there had been instances where the fire alarm was triggered by a person smoking in the building.
“It’s hard to verify these incidents since it’s so easy to dispose of the evidence, if indeed someone was smoking for instance.”
The incident did not result in any train delays.
