WATCH: Divers find body of Blaauwpan drowning victim

The dam remains closed for the public.

The body of a man who drowned at Blaauwpan in Bonaero Park was found shortly after 2pm on Saturday.

Police divers had been searching since 9am on Saturday morning.

According to an eyewitness, the middle-aged man entered the water just before 5pm on Friday. Although he was ordered to leave the water by the caretaker, he refused. Shortly thereafter he disappeared under the water.

On the scene on Saturday morning were the metro police, police, divers and K9 unit. Divers worked in shifts of 45 minutes, trying to locate the body. A dog was used in the search.

Capt Jethro Mtshali, spokesperson for Kempton Park SAPS, could not give much details on Saturday morning. According to him the victim was still unidentified at the time.

The dam remains closed for the public.
