Join Impie cancer survivor at RocoMamas event
All children between the ages of five and 18 years will receive a free burger, chips and milkshake
September is the month for cancer awareness and a young local cancer survivor is promoting an event to raise awareness and care for childhood illnesses.
As ambassador for RocoMamas Glen Marais 2019, in collaboration with Under His Coverings, Juan-Pierre du Plessis (11) is encouraging children and teens to participate in this month’s cancer awareness activities.
This event at RocoMamas Glen Marais on September 29 at 3pm will offer a free burger, chips and milkshake for all children between the ages of five and 18 years with past or present health afflictions.
Juan-Pierre is a Laerskool Impala learner who was diagnosed with leukemia when he was only three years old.
“He has always been a lively and happy boy, even when he was still receiving treatment. His illness never seemed like an issue to him,” his mother, Andante du Plessis, said.
“He laughed and played like any other boy his age. With God’s mercy and Juan-Pierre’s positive outlook on life, he fought and is now healed from cancer.”
Juan-Pierre participates in tennis, cricket, Voortrekkers, jukskei, choir, debate and ringball. He is also a top 10 academics achiever.
“As a former patient, he knows there are many children who don’t have the same privilege and are too sick to partake in such activities.”
As organiser, Carike Pretorius from Under His Covering invites models in Kempton Park to join the event to become a spokesmodel who will promote childhood cancer awareness.
Spokesmodels, as well as any child in attendance who suffers from past or present illnesses, will receive a certificate in tribute of this awareness month.
For those in the community who would like to promote awareness for childhood cancer, wearing black and yellow on September 29 will be a great way to show support.
Anyone who would like to attend the event, can contact Carike on 072 292 4705 for more information.
