The man’s head and hand were chopped off during the incident and were found a few metres from the body.

A man, believed to be 27 years old, died after being hit by a train during the early hours of Wednesday morning.

The incident happened around 6am on the railway line opposite the Ekurhuleni West College (EWC) Kempton Park campus.

The man’s head and hand were chopped off during the incident and were found a few metres from the body. The identity of the man is unknown at this stage but he was walking with Mzoli Tyabilizwe.

“We have met each other about a week and a half ago and I don’t know much about him,” said Tyabilizwe.

“We usually take this route to go to Pick n Pay n Van Riebeeck Park where we get bread and cakes but unfortunately this happened,” said Tyabilizwe.

“I saw the train approaching and slowed down. I thought he also saw it and would slow down but he carried on. The train also hooted but before I knew it, he was gone.

“I thought maybe he managed to jump over the line and waited for the train to pass. I then crossed but didn’t see him. It was when I looked back that I saw his headless body between the tracks.”

Tyabilizwe later saw his companion’s head and hand. He was shattered and ran to security officers at EWC for help.

Traumatised Tyabilizwe kept saying he thought his friend managed to jump before the train passed.
