Pageant finalist aims high.

Nqobile Lucreitia Mahlangu, born and bread in Hospital View, Tembisa, shares her journey of being a Miss Gauteng Exclusive finalist.

Raised by a single mother who died during her matric June exams she couldn’t study what she wanted. She, however, did receive an opportunity to study IT and project management in 2016 when she started working.

Mahlangu said after working as a career facilitator for Future Forward for two years, she met three men at university with whom she registered a business named Ghetto Hero’s Tech Innovation, of which she is a director.

“Ghetto Hero’s Tech Innovation is a non-profit company which gives basic skills of coding and programming, mainly web development, blog and gaming app,” said Mahlangu.

“I entered Miss Gauteng Exclusive. Where I went to the auditions I was so nervous I don’t even remember if I had answered the questions correctly, but I made it to the top 100 semi-finalist, where I had to ask people to vote for me in order for me to be in the finals.

“Little did I know that Miss Gauteng Exclusive will open a lots of doors for me, Miss Gauteng Exclusive is a women empowerment platform which aims to develop young women and advance their potential, Miss Gauteng Exclusive focuses on the inner beauty. Being a finalists has helped me access my passion, which is helping people through the words I alter with my mouth,” she said.

“I have more than 10 events where I will motivate young women and young people. I also started my non-governmental oganisation Ubunye Bentsha, which focuses on helping young people with their social, economical and educational issues. I am currently working with Tembisa High School and Agape Primary School learners and I am also involved in mentoring young girls at Siyazigabisa Home of Hope and Arebaokeng Hospice,” said Mahlangu.

Ubunye Bentsha will be launching on October 12. Mahlangu is currently planning three events, one being Miss Gauteng Exclusive Social Bullying Play at Maharishi Institute, another being Rise Up Young Women in Tembisa where she will be bringing hope to young women through arts, talents and talks, and a sanitary pad drive at Tembisa High School.

“I am grateful for the opportunities I have with Miss Gauteng Exclusive, I have learnt a lot through the workshop I attended. They have opened my mind and created opportunities for me to grow.

“I am grateful to be part of the 50 sisters who are finalists. The crowning ceremony will be held on November 16, when the journey will continue.”
