Police are searching for a missing woman (41)

The woman was seen in Ebony Park on August 20

Yet another woman has gone missing in Tembisa. Although it is not clear at this stage whether she was kidnapped or just went awol, the police have vowed to leave no stone unturned.

According to Detective Sgt Sandile Majuda of the Ivory Park police, the missing woman, Sarah Masekhala Mashishi (41), was last seen on August 20 in Ebony Park next to a hardware store where she is employed.

“At the time of her disappearance, she was wearing a navy blue top. She is light in complexion. We humbly request and appeal to anyone with information to contact us on 072 479 3316, or Jacob Mashishi on 082 646 5380,” said Majuda.

Speaking to this paper, Majuda sent a stern warning against scammers who are now taking advantage of the situation and are trying to solicit money from the family.

“Since we have made it public that there is a missing person, some people have seen an opportunity to make a quick buck by giving the family and police false information.

“Just last week, someone called the family and asked for airtime. After getting the airtime he told the family that the person we are looking for is in Atteridgeville. We had to drive there and found that it was just a wild goose chase. I want to warn people to refrain from doing this because it is a punishable crime. “We will trace and find them and charge them for misleading the police,” warned Majuda.

Majuda said cases of kidnapping and missing persons are escalating and he urged the community to work with the police to curb this scourge.

“In some cases you find that the missing people are either visiting their partners and at times you find that some have really been kidnapped and even found murdered,” he said.

“Not so long ago, Thandolwethu Ngolo went missing after her father had dropped her off at Fourways taxi rank in Johannesburg, coming to Tembisa.

“Another, a three-year-old boy, who also went missing, was found dead in the boot of an old car.”

These latest reported kidnappings come as the nation mobilises against violent crimes against women, with a number of protests already staged in Tembisa.
