Tutela in dire need to continue its family services
The community needs to step in to assist the organisation
The current poor economic situation in South Africa has a direct effect on the residents of Kempton Park.
Tutela Kempton Park, a welfare organisation which used to be known as CMR Kempton Park, has reported an increase for the demand for its services.
Residents from all walks of life knock on their door for assistance.
Said Reverend Deon Holzhauzen, chairperson of the management committee of Tutela: “As people are losing hope, they often tend to turn to the abuse of alcohol and other substances. This again has a chain reaction where children and women are suffering. Some residents reach a stage where they would rather commit suicide than face life’s challenges.
“The three social workers are inundated with requests for counseling, assisting with the removal of children from abusive parents, teaching parents life skills to enable them to reunite with their children and providing food for families. The list of needs seems endless.
“Thirteen children were reunited with their parents in August, and 500 people benefited from the nutrition programme. The special needs of the elderly are addressed as well.
“These services are putting a tremendous strain on the financial resources of Tutela. The organisation will run at an estimated loss of R300 000 for the current financial year.
“Services and food distribution will soon have to be seriously curtailed if significant contributions or donations are not received within the near future. The government provides 60 per cent of the expenses by means of a subsidy. The balance of the income is provided by contributions from churches, fund generating activities by Tutela itself and donations from businesses and individuals.
“This is an appeal to the community and businesses of Kempton Park to assist Tutela Kempton Park financially and materially.
“Tutela also has a second hand shop (Second Hope) at 17 Pascoe Avenue. Items for resale such as furniture, domestic appliances, kitchen utensils, crockery, ornaments and good quality used clothes are welcome.”
Tutela can be contacted on 011 975 3924 and all are welcome to visit the office at 17 Pascoe Avenue.
Tutela Kempton Park is a registered non-profit organisation.
