Tembisa Hospital hosts informative open day

Tembisa Hospital educates the community about the services the hospital provides

Tembisa Tertiary Hospital hosted their annual open day campaigns from September 16 to 21 for internal and external programmes.

Hospital communications manager Nothando Mdluli said the road show campaigns were held at malls, shopping centres and at the hospital to educate the community about the services the hospital provides.

“We also talked about the payment methods at the hospital. Not every patient, like a pregnant woman, an underage child and a pensioner, is required to pay,” said Mdluli.

For the first time the hospital partnered with other stakeholders and organised teams from every department.

Mdluli said they called on all departments to set up stalls and educate people. This year they also decided to partner with the Dental Clinic and Thuthuzela Health Care Centre (THCC).

She says THCC is stationed at the hospital and deals mostly with people who have been abused. Whether the person was raped, it is a case of women abuse or any kind of abuse, they assist with providing emotional and social support that one may need.

Mdluli also said the response of the community was great because people, mostly women, were eager to learn and know information, moving from one table to another.

“Externally, we had an opportunity to interact with community members who had complaints about not being properly assisted in the hospital, so we took their contact details and submitted the complaints to our complaints office.

“The complaints office falls under quality assurance. The employees are trained to handle complaints until they are resolved. If they aren’t able to be to resolve it, we can escalate it to provincial level.

“We can easily resolve certain complaints internally, like a P3 (priority three) patient complaining about having queued to long in the queue, compared to a case which needs thorough medical investigations,” said Mdluli.
