The EMPD Specialised Task Team members recovered three stolen/hijacked motor vehicles.
The vehicles were recovered in Tembisa on Sunday and Monday respectively.
Metro police spokesperson Kobeli Mokheseng said patrolling members of the specialised unit were patrolling Tembisa on Sunday when they came across an abandoned white Nissan NP200 in Motsu section and decided to investigate.
“The vehicle, with a broken ignition and damaged door locks, was tested and officers learnt the bakkie was indeed stolen in the early hours of Sunday in the Primrose area.
“While waiting for fingerprints from the SAPS following the recovery of the vehicle, officers were tipped off about a suspected cloned white Isuzu.
“The unit responded swiftly and the bakkie driven by a 25-year-old male with false registration/number plate and fake clearance certificate/disc was cornered in Tsietsi Section,” explained Mokheseng.
He said the suspect alleged he paid R10 000 for the vehicle and the balance owed to two salesmen is R25 000.
“The duo in question were visited and found in Greenfield, Palmridge. It was later revealed that the vehicle was hijacked in Lebowakgomo, Limpopo, in July.
In a separate incident, the EMPD team drove into a white Renault Sandero parked in the middle of the road in Isekelo Section.
Mokheseng said this vehicle was hijacked by two armed men from the owner’s driveway on Monday morning in Sophiatown.
