Operation Masakhane, held in Rhodesfield and on Pretoria Road on Saturday, led to the arrest of five suspects.
The joint operation united various stakeholders, including Kempton Park SAPS crime prevention unit, support personnel, police reservists, community police forum, various security companies and the Drug Free World Foundation.
The focus of the operation was crime prevention and awareness.
The operation consisted of roadblocks, stop-and-searches and patrols which led to the arrest of the suspects at different places.

“Five suspects were arrested for possession of drugs, house break-in, theft and driving under the influence of alcohol respectively,” said Sgt Dipuo Ditshego, deputy spokesperson for Kempton Park SAPS.
“A total of 141 vehicles were searched during the roadblocks and 267 people were searched. The following number of pamphlets were distributed: truth about drugs (180), domestic violence (500), road safety tips (300) and crimesStarts with me (200).”
The successful joint operation was spearheaded by Kempton Park SAPS’ Lt Col Ronelle Dormehl.
“These operations will be done on a regular basis to make sure Kempton Park becomes a safe city to live in, where all people feel safe at all times,” said Dormehl.
