Traffic warden celebrates 24 years of service
Mabena currently holds three certificates which includes an award of excellence for work and good behaviour
Samson Mabena, one of the longest serving member of the EMPD Kempton Park Traffic Warden, takes some time out to share his story of dedication and perseverance with The Tembisan.
Mabena resides in Tembisa and uses the train to get to work every day. He joined the EMPD as a traffic warden in 1995 when it was still the Kempton-Tembisa Precinct.
“In 2002, our working hours were changed and increased to 8 hours when the municipality became a Metro, now City of Ekurhuleni. I was then promoted to the Fleet Department. I no longer served much on the streets,” says Mabena.
“At the Fleet Department I learnt how to use computers and send emails. I also learnt how to use job cards in a short period,” he says.
“The message I want to send to the youth is that they must remain disciplined in whatever they do and they must always stay humble,” he continues.
In 2010 Mabena, was awarded a certificate of Long Service in recognition for his loyal and dedicated service of 15 years. To this date he works at the Fleet Department. He has now been serving for 24 years.
“I would like to thank my employers who guided me through everything. When I was awarded the long service certificate I was overwhelmed because I did not expect God to bless me as much as He has done,” says Mabena counting his blessings.
Mabena currently holds three certificates which includes an award of excellence for work and good behaviour, a piece officer, and a long-serving officer.
He says he will continue to show dedication, reliability, composure and loyalty to his work.
“I love children and their safety is our priority as traffic wardens on the streets.
“I would like to thank my wife and Mirriam Du Preez, my employer and supervisor, Supt Albert Mamahfa, for believing in me all these years,” concludes Mabena.
