Makamu sisters donate 173 sanitary pads to learners

Ikusasa Comprehensive School received sanitary donations.

Delani Makamu and Pinky Makamu donated 173 sanitary pads and roll-on deodorants to girls in need at Ikusasa Comprehensive School on October 4.

The two individuals and their two gym members, Moyahabo Makgafela and Remind Mabaso, went to Ikusasa Secondary School in Tembisa to help the needy learners.

Makamu says, “Let’s help under-privileged young girls grow into powerful women who take pride in their femininity.

“The desire to help out is inspired by my growing up years. Sometimes you would find yourself in similar situations faced by the learners and it is also motivated by my experiences while at school,” said Makamu.

“I started this project with my sister, Mpho, who was not available during the handover because of work but she has played a very huge role. My sister and I have done this out of our own pockets. This project is something that is very close to our hearts and we would really be happy if we can get sponsors.”

Thabi Mabena, the career development teacher in the life orientation department at the school welcomed the visitors.

Mabena said the sisters contacted them and offered to help where possible. They donated to Grade Nine’s, 10’s and 11’s.

“We very happy to have received the donations. At least our learners will be able to manage for a month or two.

“We appreciate the help and we hope to have a good relationship together for future encounters,” said Mabena.
