CPFs are the best way to participate in local policing initiatives

CPFs are the strongest mechanism capable of improving transparency in the SAPS

Brig David Mbongeni Ngcobo, the station commander of the Ivory Park SAPS, is calling on the local community to fully participate in the upcoming election of the community policing forum (CPF) structures next week.

Ngcobo believes it is in the best interest of the residents of the Ivory Park policing precinct to get fully involved as being a CPF member you play a meaningful role in crime combating efforts. The CPF enables the community to stay abreast with crime patterns in their areas.

He said participation in the local structures of the CPFs is the best way in which the community cooperates well with the police and influence the policy decisions within their areas.

“It is on this basis that we call upon everyone in all eight sectors in Ivory Park and surrounds to fully participate,” said Ngcobo.

Capt Bernard Matimulane, Ivory Park SAPS communications officer, said the role and responsibilities of CPFs are to strengthen and maintain a strong partnership between the community and the police, promoting communication between the SAPS and the community, improving the rendering of police services through mobilisation, crime awareness campaigns and the deployment of patrollers in hot spots to the community at provincial, cluster and sectors at station level.

“Furthermore, CPFs are the strongest mechanism capable of improving transparency in the SAPS and accountability of the service to the community,” said Matimulane.

“Election of the new CPF structures will commence on October 16 at Mikateka Primary School, Extension Nine, Ivory Park, at 6pm, followed by the Sector One election at the Old Council Offices, Ext Two, also at 6pm. The election of the new structure in Ext Seven will be held at 9am at Ebony Primary School on October 19, followed by Sector Two’s election at Eqinisweni Secondary School on October 22 at 6pm. The Sector Five election will be on October 23 at Nazareth Church in Ext 11 at 6pm,” said Ngcobo.

“For those in Sector Eight, which includes Allandale and certain parts of Kaalfontein, their election will take place at 6pm on October 24 at Drake Koka Primary School, Kaalfontein. Finally, those residing in Sector Six, which is the whole of Duduza and Tswelopele, will have a chance to vote on October 26 at Mpumelelo Primary School at 9am,” concluded Ngcobo.
