Church reflects on marriage challenges

Church hosts marriage seminar counselling

Grace and Hope Worship Ministry Church hosted the Singles Night empowerment talk at Winnie Mandela Zone 5 on October 12.

Pastor Steven Selota said the event sought to empower young people, and to highlight a few points about marriage within the theme, “Before you get married”, which included honesty and transparency in relationships.

Pastor Cedra Selota, the wife of Pastor Steven, said: “I shared with the audience the importance of honesty and transparency with future spouses, including the willingness to disclose health and financial status.

“I gave an example of chronic illnesses like HIV. If one does not disclose, they may be putting their potential spouse at risk, and denying them the power of choice.

“By not disclosing their financials to their future spouses, this may lead to conflicts in the marriage, even to a divorce.”

Selota said Christians prefer to marry in community of property “because they feel that if one decides to marry out of community of property then they don’t love the next person, and their hearts are not in it”.

Pastor Cedra Selota said the event was a success, and believes it has made an impact. She encouraged single people to think out of the box.

“I believe when their time to get married comes, they’ll be well equipped and prepared.”

She ended her talk by quoting the scripture passage taken from Proverbs 22:3: “A sensible person sees danger and takes cover, but the inexperienced keep going and are punished.”
