Your load shedding schedule for Friday

No mention was made about further load shedding over the weekend.

Due to further problems at Medupi Power Station Eskom will revert back to stage 2 load shedding at noon on Friday.

The announcement was made earlier on Friday morning, following last night’s news that stage 1 would be implemented.

Eskom on Friday said since the media briefing on Thursday night, they had a major setback, losing additional capacity from Medupi.

“As articulated, our prognosis was based on the state of the system and availability as at 5pm. Late last night we lost Medupi 3, 4 and 5 due to coal and ash handling issues.

“This is in addition to the conveyer belt that failed on October 12 at the same power station. This means that the power system has deteriorated further, creating an additional shortage of about 1 500MW generation capacity.

“As a result we will regrettably maintain stage 2 load shedding for the greater part of today,” said Eskom.

No mention was made about further load shedding over the weekend.
