More buses to be released into Harambee bus service
The main aim is to connect nine towns and 17 townships

The City of Ekurhuleni will today, Monday, officially welcome a fleet of 22 new Harambee buses.
According to the city’s spokesperson, Themba Gadebe, this forms part of the city’s Integrated Rapid Public Transport Network (IRPTN), compromising of public bus transport.
“Our main aim is to connect nine towns and 17 townships with an accessible and reliable public transport system.
Harambee is a golden thread that ties the IRPTN together by connecting with other transport modes (rail, buses and taxis) and continues to see exciting traction with its operation,” said Gadebe.

The launch will kick start at the Tembisa Hospital to Bartlett in Boksburg and members of the media will be afforded the opportunity to ride the bus with the city’s executives.
“The launch of the service extensions gives an opportunity to look at the rear-view mirror to assess and reflect on the impacts of the investment already made and the currently running operations, and will also hear from our daily commuters on how the operation of Harambee has improved their lives before taking you on the road ahead on our key focus areas.
Harambee smart travel cards, called the Eku card can now be purchased and reloaded at kiosks in OR Tambo International Airport. The kiosks are prominently visible with Harambee colours, located downstairs at the bus terminal,” continued Gadebe.
