The station commander of the Ivory Park SAPS, Brig David Mbongeni Ngcobo, has praised the community patrollers of Extension Two, whose swift response played a big role in recent arrests.
In the early morning of October 28, the community patrollers received an alert about four men who were offloading suspected stolen goods at an address in Ivory Park. Police were soon mobilised and the sector manager and his colleagues rushed to the scene.
Ivory Park SAPS communication officer Capt Bernard Matimulane said the suspects confessed and told the officers about the origin of the goods, which included boxes of eggs, fizzy drinks and snacks.
“Preliminary questioning of the suspects soon revealed that the items were the proceeds of a business burglary which took place in Entshonalanga Section, Tembisa, on Friday morning,” said Matimulane.
“Two of the suspects are employees of a bakery bordering the storage site where the stock was stolen from.
“It also emerged that the entry into the storage house was gained via the bakery side, where two of the suspects had access as they are employees. One is a security officer.
“The suspects, whose ages range from 19 to 25, have been arrested and detained at the Ivory Park police holding cells for alleged possession of suspected stolen property.
“They are expected to appear in the Tembisa Magistrate’s Court soon,” said Matimulane.
Brig Ngcobo said the police welcomed the actions of the community members.
“On behalf of my management I say you did an excellent job and we wish this could be emulated all over.
“All of the suspects’ backgrounds will be thoroughly investigated to ascertain whether or not they are involved in other criminal activities,” said Ngcobo.
