Tembisa Hospital raises funds for children with cerebral palsy

The Tembisa Hospital Physiotherapist Department hosted a fund-raising race for children suffering from cerebral palsy on October 25.

The event started with the 10km and 5km races to Clayville and Olifantsfontein and back to the hospital. The winners of the races were awarded medals and offered muscle relief sessions.

Emily Thogo, the race coordinator, said they hosted the race for these children and they will also host a tea party at the end of the year where they will hand over gifts to parents.

“Cerebral palsy is a condition that is caused by a lack of oxygen to the brain and it causes a movement disorder,” said Thogo.

“Physiotherapists, occupational therapists and dieticians sees children with this disorder and treat them every Wednesday at the hospital,” said Thogo.

The tea party will be hosted on November 23.

The 10km run for men saw Amos Malata claiming first position and Joanize Tromp claiming the female first position. In the 5km run Mohlele Madiale won the women’s first position and Dr Wim Wijnant won the men’s first position.
