‘Drunk driver’ arrested following death of boy (13) on Pretoria Road
What started as a fun day on Sunday for a 13-year-old boy and his friends ended in tragedy when he was killed by an alleged drunk driver
A driver (30) was arrested on Sunday afternoon following the death of a 13-year-old Tembisa boy who died after being hit by the suspect’s vehicle on Pretoria Road near Van Riebeeck Park Railway Station.
Kempton Park SAPS spokesperson Capt Jethro Mtshali confirmed the arrest of the suspect for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol and culpable homicide.”
The deceased was confirmed to be Mphikeleli Ndaba. He was on his way to the station with his friends to return to Tembisa after spending the day at a swimming pool in Kempton Park. He attended Ecaleni Primary School in Tembisa.
Mphikeleli’s aunt, Martha Ndaba (55), said he was with his friends, crossing the road to the station. “His friends all made it across the road but he did not.
“His mother also passed away in March this year,” she said.
According to police officials on the scene, the boy’s body was found several metres away from the point of impact.
Mtshali said the suspect was due to appear in Kempton Park Magistrate’s court on Tuesday.
