Load shedding could hit at short notice as Eskom battles again
Eskom appeal to residents and businesses to use electricity sparingly
Load shedding could hit at short notice as Eskom unexpectedly lost some generation units over the weekend.
This condition is expected to last until Thursday.
In a statement issued on Monday, Eskom said the system remained vulnerable to a number of variables due to historic factors such as inadequate maintenance, as well as ageing plants.
Unplanned breakdowns are currently above the critical threshold of 9500MW, which necessitated the extensive use of emergency resources (water and diesel) in order to meet demand.
Eskom appeal to residents and businesses to use electricity sparingly as they continue to manage the electricity system back to stability.
