Panorama’s first market days target reached
About 80 per cent of the steel and wooden products were sold at Panorama’s first market days
Kempton Panorama School hosted its first-ever market days on November 1 and 2, where they exhibited learners’ handmade products.
Panorama’s occupational therapist, Dr Fransli Buckle, said: “The school would like to thank the Kempton Park community that supported the market days.
“We are so grateful to have met our fund-raising target for the year in raising funds for our annual school transport and clothing programme,” she said.
A highlight of the Saturday’s market day was the screening of the Rugby World Cup final on a big screen.
Johan, a community member, said the atmosphere was great and it was a proudly South African experience.
Food stalls, arts, crafts, home-made goodies and a tea garden formed part of the market.
Mariska van Deventer, organiser of the event, was impressed with the turnout and reaction to the children’s self-made products. The products available retailed at prices that cannot be found in commercial stores.
“About 80 per cent of the wooden and steel products were sold. The community is welcome to contact the school for orders or procurement of braais, bomas, steel or wooden products.”
She said it was encouraging for the learners to see that the products they made had retail value.
Deputy headmaster Alex Thorpe said: “The market day, together with the skills development, is an ideal platform to build future entrepreneurs and to teach learners to contribute to the economy and community.”
Panorama’s principal, Dimitri Theron, said he was proud of the hard work the teachers and learners had invested in the project and hoped to make this market day an annual event.
