E-sports battle coming to Kempton Park
E-sports describes the world of competitive organised video gaming
Team Zigon, Kempton Park’s own e-sports team, will host a competition at Edleen Primary School from December 6-8.The competition will see teams compete for a cash prize of R5 000 and other goodies.
The competition starts online, where the game will eliminate teams in the best-of-three matches, until four teams remain. Those teams will go on to compete in the semi-finals and finals, which will be hosted at the venue.
The game the teams will play is Counter Strike: Global Offensive. Each team will consist of five players. It’s highly strategic and requires exact game knowledge and extreme teamwork to outsmart the other teams.
Team Zigon is captained by Micaela “Ghost” How (16), and also includes brothers Philip (23) and Taydn “Scout” Guest (19).
The three gamers aim to grow e-sports in Kempton Park. They believe people of all ages can benefit from and compete in e-sports tournaments.
“E-sports describes the world of competitive organised video gaming. Competitors from different leagues or teams face off in games that are popular with at-home gamers,” said How.
These gamers are watched and followed by millions of fans all over the world who attend live events or tune in on TV or online to view the tournaments.
The entry fee for the competition is R250 a team, which will go towards the prize for the winning team.
