Ivory Park police have arrested a 22-year-old man for possession of a computer which has been identified as that of a local primary school on November 9.
The suspect was arrested at his home in Extension Six, Ivory Park. The police descended on the suspect’s home at about 6am.
Capt Bernard Matimulane, Ivory Park SAPS communications officer, said a suspect who was caught on the premises of Bonwelong Primary School while stealing groceries from one of the rooms led police to the address and suspect where the laptop was found.
“At the time the latter was caught it was found that he’d already packed some of the items in a bag he brought with. Once he realised his time was up, he told police he was not operating alone and voluntarily showed police an address where one of his accomplices lived. That was when the computer was found and the suspect arrested for possession of suspected stolen property.
“The computer was identified as one of the computers belonging to the Bonwelong Primary School by the security officers. This school suffered a huge blow in the recent past when about 40 computers were taken during a business burglary,” said Matimulane.
Investigations that are expected to follow shortly will determine if the two suspects are in any way connected to that burglary or any other crime for that matter.
The station commander of Ivory Park SAPS, Brig David Mbongeni Ngcobo, has welcomed these arrests and is positive that some of the stolen items may be recovered as a result of the ensuing investigation.
