A 21-year-old Bolivian woman was arrested at OR Tambo International Airport on Tuesday for allegedly being in possession of a substance suspected to be cocaine with an estimated street value of R1.1-million.
According to Col Brenda Muridili, police spokesperson, the suspect arrived on a flight from São Paulo. She was stopped by members of the South African Revenue Service’s Customs and Excise for a routine stop and search. Her hand luggage was searched and the drugs were discovered.

The multi-disciplinary approach into safety and security at OR Tambo International Airport continues to yield results, said Muridili.
“This interdepartmental cooperation with Airports Company South Africa and other stakeholders overseen by the National Joint Operational and Intelligence Structure (NatJOINTS), is in place to root out criminals and criminal activities at OR Tambo International Airport,” she said.
