Law officers take part in ‘operation o kae molao’ at Phumlani Mall

Tembisa under police surveillance.

More than 100 SAPS members in the Ekurhuleni district, under the leadership of Maj Gen Vincent Leshabane, paraded Phumlani Mall, in Tembisa, from 5am to make sure that those who broke the law were brought to book on November 7.

Capt Nelda Sekgobela, Ekurhuleni district communications officer said some of the members stopped and searched pedestrians and motorists to check for stolen goods and dangerous weapons. They were also on the look out for those contravening the Road Traffic Act, driving vehicles that were not roadworthy and whether liquor stores had valid licences to sell alcohol.

“Second-hand goods shops were also visited for the compliance of the Second Hand Goods Act. Members of the EMPD also joined to give their support to the operation.

“Some of the foreign nationals are already arrested for selling Viagra tablets and fake facial creams in their spaza shops at Seotloana section at this moment. One foreign man has been arrested after he tried to bribe the police with R900,” said Capt Sekgobela.

“Another suspect was found at the Esselenpark roadblock possessing unlicensed ammunition and holsters for firearms, while in Winnie Mandela, more liquor was confiscated and the owner of the tavern was fined for operating without a licence.

The operation is still continuing.
