Residents invited to charity event in Moteong Section to help centre

Different stakeholders to help Bulamahlo Centre achieve its mission by hosting a donation event.

The Wash and Ribs Circle, in association with other local businesses, invites the community to a fund-raising event titled Bulamahlo Charity Event at the corner of Koti and Sparrow streets, Moteong in Tembisa on December 1.

Bulamahlo Home and Day Care Centre was opened in 1989 by Regina Sekgobela in Lifateng, Tembisa. It was first opened as a day care centre to provide education and childcare to the community.

In 2008, Bulamahlo registered as a non-profit organisation (NPO) due to the massive crisis that erupted as children were abused and abandoned. Their goal is to be a source of hope for children when they are most desperate and show them they have a fruitful future ahead of them, despite their current circumstances.

This year, several business stakeholders came together to host a charity event that will benefit the home. The stakeholders included The Wash, Rib Circle, MC Brand and Glo Skin, to name a few.

Thabiso Percy Sebake, Ribs Circle’s sale and communications manager, said several of the local businesses decided to do a thanksgiving to the neighbourhood through the Bulamahlo Centre.

“We aim to extend a helping hand to achieve the home’s goals and mission as they celebrate another year of community unity.

“We invite the community and establishments to help us collect donations in all sorts of forms (visit www.bulamahlohome.co.za or request the profile for non-perishable items). We kindly invite you to the third annual event.

The acceptable items includes rice, pasta, sugar, oats, cooking oil, tinned food, washing soap, deodorant, sanitary pads and clothes, as well as toys for children.

Sekgobela is currently running a jewellery making and sewing project to assist with the day-to-day running costs of the orphanage and she would love the opportunity to teach others how to sew.

Sekgobela, the founder of Bulamahlo, said the centre has had some good news that they would like to share with the public at large.

“The crèche age groups were expanded from 3-4 years old to 0 – 4 years old, and we have received some training for the crèche’s teachers, which greatly benefited their ability to build strong educational foundations in the children,” said Sekgobela.

Sekgobela added that the centre usually have visitors from private companies and government departments, who come and make a difference to the children’s lives, more especially on Mandela Day and during the festive season.

“In 2016 one of our oldest girls left the centre to begin her new journey and last year she completed a three-month course in furniture making and has been asked to come here and help with training,” said Sekgobela.

“In the past we had the Motsepe Foundation who visited and had fun with our children. They donated gifts and parcels to the centre’s children. We also had EMPD here who not only brought the children gifts, but also educated them on basic safety principles,” said Sekgobela.
