Girls of all ages received make-up tutorials at John Wesley Home on Sunday.
As part of the top 10 in Face of Miss Signature, Zandile Mkwanazi was required to host a charity event. She decided to work with teenage girls from John Wesley Home.
Her focus was to help the girls boost their confidence.
“My aim is not only to inspire the young girls but to educate them on the importance of exercise, eating well and how that can positively impact on your mental well-being. Furthermore, I demonstrated practical exercises and make-up tutorials to motivate them to believe in themselves,” said Mkwanazi.
The teenage girls received cosmetic bags including make-up, lip gloss, eyebrow liner, a mirror and perfume.
In the hope of making the afternoon a memorable one, the local beauty distributed flyers with affirmations generated by her for the girls to recite every morning.
Mkwanazi also performed a balloon release prayer ceremony. The girls wrote negative things they did not like about themselves or bad experiences on the balloons and let go of the balloons.
Welheminah Ramanna, one of the caregivers, said girls must be taught to express themselves so they can claim a more active role in society.
“If you educate girls, you give them the power to conquer the world. We really appreciate Zandi for choosing our home to reach out to the girls and be a source of encouragement.
“The community’s act of reaching out could be the saving grace in the life of a young girl,”said Ramanna.
The final for Face of Miss Signature will take place on December 7 at Maponya Mall in Soweto.
