Raffle raises over R9 000 for libraries

It was estimated that the first prize had a value of far over R500.

The biggest fund-raiser of the year of The Friends of the Kempton Park Libraries was a raffle for a Christmas Hamper.

To everybody’s surprise an enormous number of valuable items were donated by members to put into the hamper. This resulted in the committee deciding to make up five hampers instead of one.

It was estimated that the first prize had a value of far over R500. But the others were not much smaller.

The women of the various Friends’ working groups sold the raffle tickets at R20 each and R9 770 was collected.

This will be used by the libraries whose Friends and members contributed the most. The money will be spent mainly to buy new top sellers, Afrikaans novels, craft books and library users’ wishes.

The winners were Mina Wolmarans (first prize), Iona Schoeman (second prize), Xandre Koen (third prize), Brenda Koster (fourth prize) and N Schutte (fifth prize).

Susan Wilsenach of the committee presents Rina Schutte with the fifth price which her daughter-in-law, N Schutte, won.
