Police urge community to open genuine cases

Community urged to open genuine cases.

The Rabasotho police head of detectives, Col Makasana Mokoena, has appealed to the community to not open cases that they will withdraw later.

Mokoena also made a plea to the community to open genuine cases, arguing that this trend doesn’t just waste and exhaust state resources, but also wastes police time, which should be spent on solving real and serious cases.

“Do not open a case because you want to threaten someone. There are many people out there who open cases knowing full well that they don’t intend seeing those cases through, and, at times, you find out that nothing has really happened. People just want to threaten one another. This is wrong in so many ends and it needs to stop,” said Mokoena.

Mokoena further warned that those who will be found to have opened non-existing cases will be arrested and charged accordingly.

“We will not hesitate, and arrest you in a speed of light. Ours is to serve and protect our communities, but in order for us to do this effectively, we need our communities to respect police duties and time. If there are genuine cases opened with us, we will leave no stone unturned in ravelling the truth and bring suspects to justice,” added Mokoena.

Recently, a man was arrested for opening a false case of car hijacking at Winnie Mandela.

After some thorough investigation after the case was opened, it was discovered that the suspect had actually sold the vehicle he claimed was hijacked. The police arrested and charged him with perjury.
