Four armed suspects, driving a white Mercedes-Benz, opened fire on two security officers from different companies on Monday evening at around 11pm.
The suspects opened fire on an Alpha Security officer on First Road in Glen Marais, and soon after on a Hi-Max security officer on Sim Road in Pomona.
Luckily, Elton Masina from Alpha Security was left unscathed, but Hi-Max security officer Enock Simelani was shot in the leg.
Alpha Security control room supervisor Heidi Kruger said: “Masina was doing a routine patrol when he saw a white Mercedes-Benz approaching from behind at high speed.
“He said he was under the impression someone might have been in need of help and he cleared the way for the car to pass.”

Kruger further explained that instead of passing, the four armed suspects stopped in front of Masina, blocked his patrol vehicle, got out of their car and opened fire. In the midst of raining bullets, Masina reversed his vehicle to escape to safety.
About eight shots were fired, causing damage to the patrol vehicle’s engine, windscreen, side and rear windows.
“Petrus Mothlape from Alpha Security was called for back up by Masina, but when he saw the suspects’ vehicle approaching in his direction, he got out of the vehicle to hide behind a tree. The suspects stopped next to Mothlape’s vehicle and searched it. As they could not find him, they drove on.”
According to Hi-Max security branch manager Rupert Storm, the suspects encountered Simelani on Sim Road and shot him in his left leg.
