Philly Games crowns new ambassadors
There is partnership between the girls and Philly Games throughout.
Philly Games hosted the second annual Miss Philly’s Games Pageant on Friday at Moses Molelekwa Art Centre, Tembisa, on November 29.
The pageant, named after the local annual soccer games tournament, was looking forward to crown their second-ever brand ambassadors of 2019/2020. The community flocked to the venue to witness the contestants, who showcased their talent and beauty with the aim of being crowned Miss Philly’s.
According to the organiser, Lerato Maboa-Mngadi, the pageant aims to motivate and nurture talent, while giving back to the community that shows consistent support to each year.
“There is partnership between the girls and Philly Games throughout. We balance and drive each other into limitless strengths, touching and serving the community through our charity programmes and our CSI programmes,” said Maboa-Mngadi.
“With our sponsors, such as Tembisa Plaza, we are able to reach more people and charity organisations. With the girls in the community, we are able to join ideas and venture into new fields.”

The finale of Miss Philly’s Games was epic and fascinating because contestants had to incorporate the theme of #NoToXenophia, as well as reciting their names to promote culture.
“This was everything we had hoped for from the start. We created this pageant to give a platform to girls who are not into or do not want to engage in sport activities, as we also introduced netball for girls, in addition to the usual soccer tournament for the boys,” said Maboa-Mngadi.
The pageant crowned three of its ambassadors. The girls crowned are Lutendo Precious Khorommbi, who is the queen. She was awarded R10 000. Buhle Tshabalala is the first princess and was awarded R5 000. Mahlogonolo Phasa is the second princess and was awarded R2 500. All finalists were given a goodie bag.
The 18-year-old crowned queen is ready for the duties that the title brings upon her. She said she will remain loyal to the community and promises to serve the society that looks after her.
Young and bubbly Khorommbi also added that she has always been passionate about making a positive and progressive change in other people’s lives.
“I believe that I can represent the brand for what it is to the best of my abilities. My vision as the reigning queen is to make sure that I promote the brand and inspire other young girls to stand tall and take my crown next year.”
“I believed in myself, that’s why I want to motivate others to fight for their goals as well. I am currently studying business management science at Cape Peninsula University of Technology, and I would like to encourage education in young people,” said Khorommbi.

Miss Philly’s Games second princess Mahlogonolo Phasha also said she had to prepare extra hard to able to stand a chance of winning; hence, this is her third pageant competition.
“I first entered for Miss Tembisa and got into the top six. I then became Miss Ivory Park Refined’s first princess in 2018. I had to find someone to coach me because I knew the competition was going to be tough,” said Phasha.
Phasha resides in Winnie Mandela and currently holds a bachelor of science in biochemistry and human physiological from University of Johannesburg. She also has a BSc honours in biochemistry and is currently studying towards her masters in pharmaceutical science at Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University. Phasha is also the co-founder of Mr and Miss Uniform Pageant.
“I believe I am at the right platform to engage with the community. Through my foundation, Nthuse Foundation, which focuses on helping children get bursaries and helping them register at universities, I am able to reach a much greater number and be of help to others,” said Phasha.
