MaTwinz throws massive Pens Down street party

Ivory Park twins host year-end party for students to relax after difficult studies.

Ma Twinz Entertainment hosted the seventh annual edition of Pens Down Shirts and Shade in Mvelase Street, Extension 14, Ivory Park, last Saturday.

It all started in 2013 when a group of friends celebrated the end of their matric year with a street party and invited their peers from other high schools. Since then Pens Down has become a yearly not-to-be-missed event.

Ma Twinz is a DJ duo made up of twin brothers Siyabonga and Simon Sidumo. They are the sole owners of the registered Ma Twinz brand, which has expanded into catering, event management and sound engineering.

Siyabonga said the Pens Down event focuses on bringing students from all learning institutions, from high school to varsity, together under one roof so that they can unwind after a year of difficult studies.

“The brand was registered last year. We continue to branch out to other sub-events under Ma Twinz and we sometimes join forces with other brands to offer a new experience never seen before in the neighbourhood,” said Sidumo.

The duo have achieved recognition beyond their neighbourhood, scoring gigs in Mozambique, Free State, Polokwane, Johannesburg and Pretoria.

They work with their manager Simon Voyiya and assistant manager Honey Ndamane.

“This year’s event was a success if we count the number of people who turned up regardless of the bad weather. The line-up was better with up-and-coming artists included for the first time,” said Ndamane.

“We are also venturing into giving back. We have the Pens Down, Party Ya Ma Twinz, Cooler Box Party and Nyakaza Saturday events. We have grown, so why not reach out to the people who supported us from the beginning?”

“Early next year we will be having an event that will focus on helping NGOs feed newborn babies and toddlers who were neglected by their parents. They need our support more than the 11-year-old who now may know the difference between right and wrong.

“We are going to issue our events calendar in early January. People can follow us on Facebook at Ma Twinz, Instagram at MaTwinz_SA as well as on Twitter. For bookings they can email at Matwinz@gmail.com,” said Ndamane.
