A Kempton Park resident narrowly missed being involved in an armed robbery at Postnet in Glen Marais on Tuesday afternoon.
“I have missed it by one minute and am very fortunate to have not been involved,” said Gregory Isherwood.
According to him, he went to the business to collect a parcel and noticed two guys running out of the store.
“I was turning off the road to park and did not think much of it at the time. As I entered Postnet, I discovered they were just robbed at gunpoint. There were four people inside at the time, three women, of which two were staff, and one man.”
He empathised with the women who had their possessions stolen and had to bear the unnecessary stress of coming in harm’s way like this.
“I must say, they reacted very well from what I heard. They triggered the panic alarm before the assailants were even in the shop as I understood from what the one lady told me. The armed response company got there in five minutes, but unfortunately it was too late.
Capt Jethro Mtshali, spokesperson for Kempton Park SAPS, confirmed the robbery.
He said an undisclosed amount of cash was robbed and a business robbery case was being investigated. No one had been arrested.
“We are currently experiencing an increase in robberies. We have put in place crime prevention plans which will involve other law enforcement agencies to try curb the escalation of these crimes.
“We appeal to businesses to be vigilant at all times and report any suspicious activity or persons to 08600 10111,” said Mtshali.
