Edleen’s Ottos celebrate 50 years
They always work together as a team and raised two sons
An Edleen couple will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on December 20.
Raoul (72) and Mariaan (71) have always been active members of their communities by being members of various sports clubs and community organisations over the years.
They always work together as a team and raised two sons. And today they are also proud grandparents to two young boys.
The couple got married at the Gereformeerde Kerk Moedergemeente on the corner of Monument Road and Commissioner Street in 1969, after which they moved into their first house in the city on Casuarina Street, just a stone’s throw away from where they tied the knot.

They later moved to Birch Acres and have been residents of Edleen since 1988.
Even in their golden years both Raoul and Mariaan are still working. Raoul is a shipping and logistics consultant at ROSCO CC and Mariaan a real estate agent with RE/MAX.
In their younger days they were members of Birch Acres Tennis Club, Avion Park Billiards and Kempton Park Round Table, an organisation which had since closed down.
“Over the past 50 years of marriage they have been an example to others on how to build and maintain a fantastic marriage and relationship,” their son Stefan, also an estate agent, said.
“It’s an honour and a privilege to see them love each other the same way they did 50 years ago. And even though they are both in their 70s they still work full-time while contributing to their communities where possible. Congratulations on this milestone and may you be blessed with many more years of love, friendship and family.”
