Tembisa on high police surveillance

Tembisan and Ivory Park streets kept clean over the weekend by police.

Law-enforcement departments went all out to keep the roads of Ekurhuluni safe between over the long weekend where they made arrests.

The SAPS, Johannesburg Metro Police Department, Tshwane Metro Police Department, Gauteng Traffic Police Members, EMPD Speed Enforcement, Public Order Policing and Specialised Task Team made arrests in Olifantsfontein and Tembisa areas for excessive speeding, driving while intoxicated and possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

Kobeli Mokheseng, EMPD spokesperson, said on December 15 between 11am and 3.30pm, roving roadblocks were staged by more than three highly visible law-enforcement in Olifantsfontein and Tembisa areas. “Roads targeted were Madiba Drive, DM Marokane and R562 road. Two male drivers, aged 39 and 42 were found tipsy and were arrested and taken to Olifantsfontein Police Station, where charges of driving under the influence of alcohol were registered against them.

“Furthermore, five discontinue notices for operating unroadworthy motor vehicles on a public road and 34 citations for moving violations, not in possession of a valid driver’s license, defects and failing to wear a safety seat belt, were issued to offenders.

Mokheseng added that on December 16, at 3am, the EMPD Specialised Task Team raided a shack in Tembisa area and arrested two men, who, according to the community, were always brandishing a firearm in public spaces.

“The duo, residing at Duduza informal settlement, who are 41 and 43 years old, were picked up and taken to Ivory Park police station by the team after a Taurus revolver firearm, with serial numbers tampered with and nine live rounds, was uncovered from them. They are both facing charges of possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition,” said Mokheseng.

Those arrested over the long weekend are expected to appear in Tembisa Magistrate’s Court soon.
