She said a number of assailants were involved in the attack. Three attackers were inside the supermarket, where they opened fire on the guard. A further group of armed attackers were outside the supermarket and opened fire at the vehicle. No other guards were harmed in the attack.
The company said guards at the scene followed all emergency procedures during the robbery, but unfortunately, the attackers absconded with a small amount of cash. G4S is currently working with the police to apprehend the suspects.
“We are alarmed by the violent nature of this attack. Keeping our people safe is our first priority, and we do that by ensuring they have adequate training, protective equipment and access to the best innovations and technology, both inside the vehicles and in operational support,” said Smit.
“We are, however, deeply concerned about the escalating number of CIT attacks that are taking place across the country. The attacks are well-planned, and while SAPS has made a number of critical arrests of CIT criminals over the past few months, an escalated approach is urgently required.

“G4S believes that CIT attacks can only be addressed through close collaboration between Government, law enforcement and business.
“While the SAPS CIT Initiative Special Task Team, led by General Zulu, has achieved significant successes recently, much more needs to be done to ensure that law enforcement is winning the war against CIT crime,” concluded Smit.
According to Norkem Park SAPS spokesperson Sgt Johanna Madiga, the same driver and his crew member were also robbed at the Total Garage on Soutpansberg Drive in Van Riebeeck Park on June 8.
Madiga said the cash van arrived at the supermarket at about 10.18am. One officer entered the supermarket to collect the money.?They parked the CIT vehicle in front of the supermarket.
Madiga said the empty moneybag was later found on Suikerbekkie Street.
She said two cartridges, including a 9mm round, was found inside the supermarket. One 9mm round and four rifle cartridges were discovered outside the supermarket in the parking lot.
