Suspects pretending to be police rob 60-year-old woman

A 60-year-old woman was allegedly robbed of more than R80 000 in cash in Kempton Park and Pretoria respectively.

According to Capt Jethro Mtshali, spokesperson for Kempton Park SAPS, this was done through a scam.“The woman alleged she was walking on Pretoria Road, on September 5, when an unknown person smeared her with an oil substance and proceeded walking,” said Mtshali.
“The woman was approached by two suspects in a vehicle who alleged the substance would make her money disappear from the bank. The two occupants showed the woman a fake police identity card.”

The woman got into the suspects’ vehicle and convinced her to give them the R500 she had on her. They also convinced her to go to her home in Bredell where she gave them another R6 600.
“The victim was then taken to a BnB in Pretoria, where she was allegedly kept for three days,” explained Mtshali.“During this time, she was persuaded by the suspects to withdraw money from her bank. She kept withdrawing and in total she withdraw R76 000. The suspects then told the woman they would report the matter to the police station, holding all her money, and told her to wait for them but they never returned.”
After realising what had transpired, she opened a case. A case of robbery is being investigated by the Kempton Park SAPS detectives.
