Two suspects were arrested on charges of possession of suspected stolen property on North Rand Road, on Wednesday afternoon.
This comes after Kempton Park SAPS members, together with Prasa protection officers, raided one of the second-hand goods properties on North Rand Road after receiving information that the alleged property is not complying with the Second-Hand Goods Act.
“Upon arrival, they searched the premises and found various train parts valued at R16 000,” said Sgt Dipuo Ditshego, deputy spokesperson for Kempton Park SAPS. The two suspects, aged 30 and 38, were arrested.”
Ditshego said the arrests came after Minister of Transport, Fikile Mbalula, launched a safety plan for Prasa to address the ongoing problem of vandalism and cable theft at the train stations.

Spokesperson of Kempton Park SAPS Capt Jethro Mtshali said Mbalula launched the plan on the same day of the raid at the Rhodesfield Gautrain Station.
“Three thousand officers will be deployed at train stations to monitor and patrol at the stations,” said Mtshali.
“The vandalism and cable theft has been a problem, but it became worse during the lockdown when trains were not operating. The previous security contracts were done away with as the vandalising was done in their presence with some alleged to have been involved in the theft and vandalism.”
Kempton Park Police Station’s station commander Brig Samuel Maredi said he hopes that more such raids will be carried out.
The two suspects were detained at the Kempton Park SAPS holding cells pending their appearances at the Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court.
